P.L. 2021, c. 18 (“Cardiac Law”) made changes to the Department of Health’s (“Department”) licensing process for full-service adult diagnostic cardiac catheterization, primary angioplasty and elective angioplasty. The Cardiac Law was signed on February 22, 2021 and took effect on May 23, 2021.
New Jersey hospitals that operate a cardiac catheterization laboratory are required to report data on each patient undergoing catheterization to the National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) into the CathPCI registry module. This includes both diagnostic and interventional catheterization procedures.
The information is collected to assess compliance with licensing standards and to monitor cardiac catheterization trends and quality of care.
The Department licenses all cardiac catheterization laboratories in one of four categories. These categories determine the types of procedures the lab may perform and the types of patients they may treat.
Cardiac Catheterization and Angioplasty data is available below. Data for earlier years can be found in the Archives.
